My Grandparents’ Childhood
All people, of course, were or are children, including my grandparents. I interviewed them, asking them questions about their childhood. The following are their accounts of childhood.
I will first talk about my grandma. She was seventeen years old when her youngest sibling was born. My grandmother’s favorite food was biscuits and gravy, and her favorite game was jacks. She went to college at Red Rocks Community College for business. Grandma’s favorite present she ever got was a bicycle. To celebrate holidays, she spent time with family, and to celebrate her birthday, since it is in December, before Christmas, she was allowed to open one Christmas present early. She was born in Fort Worth, TX, moved to Illinois, and then moved to Colorado. One best friend she could remember was a girl named Barbara, and for fun, she would go to the skating rink or the movies. They had a television, but it was only black and white. My grandma said that sometimes the movies had color in the theaters.
My grandpa was four when his youngest sibling was born. His favorite food was fried clams, and his favorite game was dodge ball. Papa did not go to collage like Grandma; instead, he became a soldier in the army. His favorite present was a bicycle like Grandma’s, and for holidays, he spent time with family. All the birthdays in his family were simple, because they did not get many presents. He was born in Aberdeen, WA, then moved to California, and then moved to Colorado. Some fun places they went was an old house in the forest, the movies, and the skating rink. He had some friends like my grandma that he remembers, like Byren, Donny, and Bobby.
I love my grandparents very much. I am so happy I got to talk to them about their childhood and find out the difference of what they did when they were children compared to what I do today.
