My Summer Vacation

My family goes on at least one vacation every summer, and this year we went to Buffalo, New York in June for my cousin’s high school graduation. I will tell you about some of our best times there with our family.

As I said earlier, we drove there from where I live, Colorado. Going there, we passed through Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and then into New York. You see, my birthday is on the nineteenth of June, and we were going to be gone for it, so we celebrated my birthday party a couple days before we left. On my actual birthday, since we were in Nebraska, we went to the Omaha Zoo, and in Ohio, we visited one of our great friends, Tommy and we had hotdogs and ice cream together.

When we arrived at our rental house at about seven or eight pm and after unpacking a bit, we went over to my Uncle Adam’s house to see the family. The only other person that came with us was my favorite uncle who lives not too far away. His name is David, but we have always called him Unkie, and he flew there and stayed at Uncle Adam’s house. Uncle Adam has four kids, our cousins, whose names are Avery, Lorali, Jared, and Jack.

Avery is the oldest, at the age of eighteen. She is the child who is graduating. Lorali is the second child, and she is probably my favorite. She is fifteen and she is very nice to everyone. Next is Jared, who is my age, eleven. He is always fun to talk to no matter what you are talking about. Finally, there’s Jack, whose six. He is very funny and sweet and is also good to talk to when he is not playing on his Nintendo Switch, but he can get into trouble sometimes, too.

We were at their house most of the time, but we also were at the rental house too of course. I loved playing with my siblings in the giant backyard that we had. It had so many kinds of trees with berries that we picked, but of course we did not eat them. There were pears, crabapples, cherries, wild strawberries, and a river in the back of the yard. It was a beach-style house, so there were seashell decorations and ocean paintings all over the house. There was also a fire pit made from anchors in the backyard, so we made smores one of the nights there.

One day, at the house, my sister was looking around in our bag with the clothes in it, when she screamed and ran outside (where my parents were) and said that there was a giant spider in the bag. As I mentioned before, we live in Colorado, so big spiders to us are wolf spiders, so that is what my parents thought how big it was. They were looking through the bag outside, and just when my sister was starting to think that she had imagined it, she saw it, and so did my parents. My brother and I were further out in the backyard playing, so we didn’t know what had happened until we heard my mom scream. We ran over and saw the spider. It was the biggest bug I had ever seen outside of a museum; it was giant!!

When about a week had passed, we went to go visit some other family, because most of my mom’s side lives in New York. We had breakfast with a bunch of family members, and we hung out with them for a while. A couple days later, we went to Niagara Falls and walked alongside the river with the family. After that, another one of my uncles, Uncle Craig and his daughter, Mariella, came over to the rental house for a couple hours. We also went to the park with them. Then, we drove to my Aunt Linda’s and Uncle Dick’s house, and we went to dinner with them, which was really fun! (I almost fell out of my chair, and my sister had to catch me.)

The next day, Unkie, Lorali, my family, and I went to Niagara Falls and we rode on the Maid of the Mist, which is a large boat from which people ride on and go in the middle of the Horseshoe Falls. The Horseshoe Falls are waterfalls that, from above, are shaped like a horseshoe. When we got there, Lorali decided that she didn’t want to go, so Unkie stayed in the car with her, and we went. We got drenched with water. Partly because we were in the made of the mist. Partly because it was raining also!

Altogether, this was one of the best vacations we have ever taken. I cannot wait to be able to go there more often. It was so fun and exciting to spend time with family and do so many new activities.
