The Railway Children Book Report
The Railway Children is a children’s book by Edith Nesbit. It is about three children who move away from their city home into the country next to the railway. They learn to love the railway and make many good friends there. Here is a summary of their many adventures on the railway throughout the story, who the children are, and why they had to move.
First, there are three children. The oldest, Roberta (Bobby) is probably the most responsible. She is usually brave but sometimes she can get scared and, possibly, faint. The next child, Peter, is the only child that is male. He can be kind to his sisters, but he usually isn’t. He is brave and is not afraid to protect his family, or just to show off to his sisters. Finally, the last kid is Phillis. She is the youngest child and is always trying to help, but she usually ends up getting in the way. However, she sometimes accidentally says something that gives the other children an idea.
They moved out to the country from their city home in London, because some men came to their house and took their father away for an unknown reason to them. Their mother already knew the reason the whole time, but she didn’t tell them so they would not get scared. Their father comes back at the end of the story, and they find out that he was framed and went to prison for a crime he did not commit.
Throughout the story they befriend many people such as the old gentleman, who becomes very important later in the story, Perks, who works at the railway station, their Russian gentleman, a boy named Jim, and many others. They also have many adventures on the railway and become heroes in many situations.
The story concludes with their father coming home, but they don’t have to leave their house, Three Chimneys, and the railway. They keep all the friends they made over the year. They live together forever in their beautiful and now happier home.
This is a magnificent book, and I recommend it for many reasons. A couple are one, it’s exciting, two, it’s realistic, three, this book is for all ages, etc. I think anyone would love this fantastic book if they read it and they would definitely recommend it like I do.
