In the first semester of Ron Paul Curriculum seventh grade English, I learned about many things. They were the key parts of a story, the five parts of a work of fiction, different genres, and different types of writings, such as poems. I also read many books that I will also list off in this report.

There are five key parts in a story. The first one is the expedition, which is the beginning of a story. It usually introduces the main character too. Next, there is the rising action, which consists of everything leading up to the main part in the story. The character is slowly developing into the person the reader wants them to be, which is usually a better person than they were before. New characters are also introduced during the rising action, and it is usually the longest part in a book. The main part in every book is called the climax. This is what the rising action was leading up too. This is usually the part when the character fully develops into a new, better person. The falling action is when the whole lowers back down from the climax, almost back to the beginning. Finally, there is the resolution, which is the ending of the story. This is a very simple outline, and it is very helpful to use to write a book.

Next, I learned about the five parts of a work of fiction. The first part is the plot, which explains the problem of the story. Then there is the setting, which includes when and where the story takes place, who the main character and the other characters in the story are, what the problem is, how they got into the problem, and why they want to get out of the problem. Next is character development, which is how the character develops into who the reader wants them to become. There is also the theme of the story, which is the lesson that the author is trying to get out in the story. The book can even have a different meaning for all the people that read the book. The fifth part of a work of fiction is the author’s style. The author’s style is the way the author uses their words and writes the story. For example, Charles Dickens’s writing style is more funny than Shakespeare’s writing style.

I learned about genres next, which is basically the category of book a story belongs in. Genres are mainly split into two parts – fiction and nonfiction – which have many break-off points. Examples of non-fiction books are biographies and autobiographies. Examples of fiction genres are science fiction, horror, mythical, allegory, and mystery, but, of course, there are many more.

Next I learned about types of writings, which are indeed different from genres. One type of writing is a novel, which is a long story, usually a chapter book. There is also a short story, which (like the name describes) is a short book. Novellas are books in between novels and short stories. You could say it as a short novel, or a long short story. Finally, there are poems and comics. Comics are novels, but with only pictures, with talking and sometimes writing inside those pictures as part of the picture.

I have read many books in the first semester of this course too! They were “The Dragon and the Raven”, “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”, “Wulf the Saxon”, “Treasure Island”, “White Fang”, “A Knight of the White Cross”, “Robin Hood”, “Robinson Crusoe”, “Sherlock Holmes”, “A Christmas Carol”, and I just finished reading “Alice in Wonderland”. My favorite books that I read from the first semester of this course are “White Fang”, “Robinson Crusoe”, “A Christmas Carol”, and “Alice in Wonderland”. I definitely recommend all of these books to anyone.

During the first semester of the Ron Paul Curriculum 7th grade English course, I learned about many things. They were: story parts, the five parts of a work of fiction, genres, and types of writing. I also read many great books. I think everyone should take this course because. I think everyone should take this course, because it is fun, the videos are short, and you learn so much about writing and books!
