Week 10 History Essay

            There have been many kings of Israel, but probably the most famous king is King David. He has many interesting stories which all teach valuable and Godly lessons.

           One of his most famous stories is “David and Goliath”. David was the youngest of seven children, and while he stayed home and took care of his father’s sheep, his brothers would go fight in war under King Saul. One day, David’s father told him to go to his brothers. David did, and when he got there, the Israelites were panicking about a Philistine giant who wanted to fight. The giant’s name was Goliath, and he said that one man would come and fight him. Whoever won, their army would win the battle. With his sling and five stones, David challenged and knocked out Goliath. Then he drew the giant’s sword and cut off Goliath’s head.

            After Saul was dead and David became king, another event happened; however, it wasn’t Godly and David shouldn’t have done it. David noticed that a woman named Bathsheba was very beautiful, so he invited her into his house and committed adultery with her, so she became pregnant. He later found out that she was married to a man named Uriah. David then had Uriah put it the front row in battle, so that he would surely be killed, and David could marry Bathsheba. David was later punished for this, by the baby not surviving birth.
 
           David sinned many other times too, for no one is perfect. However, David did many other amazing things. You probably already know this, but King David wrote Psalms. He had a magnificent palace, and he tried to move the Ark of the Covenant to a better place. He did this the wrong way first, and because of this a man named Uzzah was killed. After this, he moved the Ark of the Covenant the right way, to Jerusalem (for that was the place the home for the Ark of the Covenant was to be build). Then God told him that not David, but his son, would build the temple.

           Altogether, King David is very fascinating to me. He has many very interesting stories which I love to learn about. He also wrote the book of Psalms in the Bible. Psalms is the biggest book in the Bible, and it teaches lots of Godly lessons.
