The Flavian Dynasty
I learned about quite a few things this week in history that I enjoyed. However, in this essay, I am going to write about the Flavian Dynasty. I will start with Vespasian.
Vespasian started the Flavian dynasty. He was in a high place in the army when he was called to come back to Rome from war, defeat Vitellius, and become the new emperor of Rome. He did this and started the Flavian dynasty. Vespasian’s family was from the equestrian class in Rome, but they quickly advanced in power due to their incredible military skill.
In 70 AD, Vespasian’s son, Titus conquered and destroyed Judea (or Jerusalem). Jerusalem was now officially under the authority of Rome.
Vespasian died peacefully of old age. This was unusual, for all of the other Roman emperors that came before him either committed suicide, died in battle, or was murdered.
After Vespasian’s death, his biological son, Titus, took over the throne after him. This was also unusual because all the previous emperor’s sons were adopted, if they ever became emperor. Titus only rained for two to three years, and he died from a fever.
After him, his brother, Domitian took over. Domitian was a great ruler. He helps the people after the destruction of Pompeii. He and his brother also expanded Roman territory into Britain. He reigned from 69 to 96 AD. He was assassinated by the Senate because they felt that he was a tyrant. Obviously, they did not want a tyrant ruling over the land.
I think that ancient Rome is one of the most fascinating topics you can learn about. I am obsessed with history and how it developed. I encourage you to learn more about history, especially Ancient Rome.
