Week 3 History Essay

In what ways do you see God’s general revelation in the world around you? Do you respond differently than the ancient civilizations that ignored God?

There are so many ways that God reveals Himself in the world. The first way is how everything on Earth works together in perfect harmony. I think God also reveals Himself through the love and goodness of people. He is even revealed through the cycle of life and death here on Earth. “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20.

One thing I find fascinating is that everything is in a perfect pattern; the seasons, day and night, life and death; everything is alternating. I also think God reveals Himself in the way that all life on Earth works together to live. For example, people and animals breathe oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Plants “breathe” carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Another example would be how plants produce fruit. Animals eat the fruit and spread the seeds to a different place to populate. It’s no coincidence that all these living things need each other to survive.

Still another way God reveals Himself is through the love and goodness of people like I mentioned before. Kindness and love are how the Lord can work through people. If there was only a little bit or no love in the world, God would not exist. I know he exists because my family loves each other. I can feel the power of love through my parents and siblings, and grandparents, and aunts, and uncles, and cousins, etc.

Finally, I know God exists because of how everything is made. Everything is perfect in its own way. Some people say that no one is perfect, but I do not think that that is true. I believe that everyone is perfect because God made us, and he is perfect. After all, when God was creating the world, He announced that something was good after He created it, but when he created human (Adam), he called it really good.

I believe I respond differently than the ancient civilizations that ignored God. Many ancient civilizations made false idols. In some cases, if they did not understand something, like the wind for instance, they would create a god to explain it. I believe the physical world and the science that helps to explain it only shows that the universe did not just come together by accident. It is designed perfectly by the Creator of all things.
