My Favorite Thing I Learned About This Year
My favorite thing that I learned about this year was the Roman Empire. In this essay, I will summarize the Roman Empire starting with Caesar. I will also explain why I enjoyed learning about it so much.
First of all, if you didn’t know, Julius Caesar was never an emperor of Rome. He gained much power through his authority in the Senate, yet he was never an emperor. However, his son Augustus Caesar was the first formal emperor of Rome. Of course, there were many other good and bad emperors during the Roman empire.
After the first couple Caesars, they did not bring back the senate as planned. The people had forgotten how the senate worked and how life was before the empire. Because of this, they just kept Rome the way it was, as an empire.
I liked learning about the Roman empire, and Rome in general, for many reasons, but I will only explain a few. First, I like how the Romans were smart, even though most of there ideas came from the Greeks and/or Egyptians. Another reason that goes along with that is how they take other civilizations’ ideas and make them in their own way.’
Also, I think everybody was and still is impressed with Rome’s military. This massive and strong military really paid off until the barbarians came and the people in the military started fighting against each other. This was also one of the reasons the Roman Empire fell.
Altogether, Rome was my personal favorite thing to learn about this year. I think it is so fascinating how Rome started as a small colony and became an enormous empire. I am so excited to finish up this year and learn so much more next year!
