What Can the Lord Do?
By Genevieve

Write a poem or song commemorating a special event. You can use an act of God, the way Moses did, or some other story you know well.

A child came up to me
One beautiful day
Which the sun was to shine
And the trees were to sway

They came up to me
All tired and hot
Made a confused face
And looked at a pot

They asked me why
Did the great and powerful God
Have that bowl made
a little bigger than a pea pod

I told them that our God
Can do many, many things
That are greater than anything
You have ever seen

He can forgive
He cures and heals
He made dogs and cats
And lions and seals

He created the sky
And you and me
Each blade of grass
Each buzzing bee

He created everything
From flees to mountains
And He loves everybody
Bad like them
And good like me

And he made that pot
So small as the pod of a pea
For that little bowl
Belongs to me

But why, asked the child
Do you have such little food
When you are big and strong
And in a good mood?

I looked at the troubled darling
And she looked at me
With big blue eyes
And shining teeth

Dear child, I told her
I am old and weak
You must eat more
To be better than me

I played my part
And now it’s your turn
To please the lord
And use what you learn

Always remember
Wherever you are
You were made for a purpose
To shine like a star

The Lord loves you,
For he loves everything
He rules over all
He is the king!
